Roulette is an exciting game of chance that can be mastered by anyone. But you can’t achieve this mastery over the game until you learn its basics. So today I have decided to give you a crash-course on roulette terms so that you can get one step closer to learning the game as well as you can. Only when you have learned these basic roulette terms can you then get into the advanced strategies that will enable you to win time and time again.

Since I don’t know your degree of familiarity with the game, then I am going to start from the very beginning and provide the most basic roulette terms first. If you already know these terms then you can skip ahead.

Roulette Terms

No matter what your degree of skill and familiarity with the game, I’m pretty sure that by the end of this article you will have a greater understanding of the roulette terms that are commonly tossed around during a game. Due to the space restraints of this article I won’t be able to cover all the unique roulette terms, but I do believe that I can present you with a pretty good start.

Let’s start off with the what the various bets are called. The roulette term that is often used the most is called a black bet. A black bet is simple a bet that is placed on all the black numbers. This bet has better odds then the ones I’m going to be mentioning below, but also pays out at the lower one to one payout. A red bet is the same as the black bet, but as you probably already have guessed the bet is on all the red numbers. The red bet has the same payout as the black bet.

Another popular bet is called a column bet. A column bet is a bet that is placed on any one of the three available columns of numbers. This bet doesn’t have as great odds as a red or black bet, but it does have pretty good odds. This bet has a payout of two to one. Other common bets that are often used include the line bet, even bet, odd bet, a green number bet and a high/low bet. These bets are pretty much self-explanatory and how they are played are included in their names. One of the bets that isn’t readily known by everyone is the special line bet. This bet is placed on the first five numbers (00,0,1,2,3) and has a payout of six to one.

Other roulette terms that you may come across during your game-play include the coup, parlay and La Boule. A coup is simply a winning bet that is an all or nothing proposition. If a player places all his money on a single bet and wins, then that is a coup. A parlay is another unique roulette term. It is when a player leaves his winnings from a previous wager and adds to it during his current bet. The last term, La Boule, is usually only heard in European casinos. It’s a French term that is often referred to as “small game.” It is at its most basic level a simplified version of roulette that features a wheel with only nine numbers in three different colors. Instead of a hard ball, the balls used in this game are small and rubber and bounce around pretty much before they drop into a slot. This makes La Boule a roulette game that is both fast and very simple to play.

So this concludes our little guide Hopefully you have learned something from this guide that you didn’t already know and can implement into your game play. Remember to always bet with your head. It is only a game and is designed first and foremost as a form of entertainment.
