When most people look at the game of roulette they feel that it is a very complex game. While roulette isn’t always the easiest game to understand, it isn’t rocket science either. What makes this game appear complex are the roulette payouts. During the course of a game a player has dozens of different bets that he can place. That is why I decided to write this article to help walk you through the sometimes confusing structure of roulette payouts.

The most common bet that a player can make is a straight bet. This is when a bet is placed on a single number. If that number comes up then the player wins. This bet has a roulette payout of thirty-five to one.

It also has the worst odds of any bet that can be placed. The next most common bet is the split-bet. This is a bet that is placed between two numbers. If either of these numbers “hit”, then the player wins. The payout for this bet is seventeen to one. The vertical line bet, otherwise known as the street bet, is another bet that is very popular among players. This is a bet that is placed on the vertical line that covers three numbers. There are twelve different street bets that can be made by a player including {1-2-3}, {4-5-6} and {7-8-9}. Roulette payouts on a street bet are eleven to one.

Now let’s move on to the bets that aren’t played by a lot of players either because they don’t know about them or the roulette payouts are too low for them. The first bet that I want to talk about in this category is the corner bet. This bet covers four numbers and is played by the player placing his chips on the line intersection of four numbers. Possible numbers that can be played using the corner bet include {2-3-5-6}, {23-24-26-27} and {28-29-31-32}. And this example represents only a small fraction of the possible bets using the corner bet. This bet has a payout of eleven to one. Another bet that isn’t used too often is the six number bet. This bet is also called a line bet because the bet is placed by the player laying a chip on the line that covers six numbers. Possible combinations include {22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27}, {1,2,3,4,5 and 6} and {28.29.30.31.32 and 33}. The payout for this bet is five to one. Our next bet is the dozen bet. As the name suggests, this bet covers twelve numbers. Possible combinations include {25-36}, {13-21} and {1-12}. The payout on this bet is two to one. Similar to the dozen bet is the column bet. This bet also covers twelve numbers, but it is the numbers in a particular column. The payout for this bet is also two to one.

There are also a number of outside bets that can be played. The roulette payouts for these bets are one to one and include the following bets: even, odd, red, black, high, low, one through eighteen and nineteen through thirty-six. And that pretty much concludes the bets and the roulette payouts that can be achieved by the player. As you can see there are a huge number of possibilities when placing a bet. There is one thing that players need to keep in mind when they place various bets. Each table has a minimum and a maximum bet and that has to be met every single time. And when a table sets a minimum and a maximum bet, most of the time the player can’t split the inside and outside bets to reach these levels.
