You are probably reading this article for one of two reasons; either you want to learn how to play roulette effectively or you want to learn some tips for helping you improve your roulette odds. Today, we are going to be answering both questions in one fell swoop. I am going to talk a little bit about the betting structure in the game and I am also going to be giving you some helpful tips for improving your roulette odds.

Those who learn the probabilities of the game have a huge advantage over those who don’t. These people are able to exponentially increase their potential winnings by trimming down the advantage of the house.

But in order for players to experience these advantage they have to know what they are facing. They have to learn what it takes to beat the roulette odds. Let’s start off with the wheel. Both traditional casinos and online casinos have one of two different wheels. They either have an American wheel that has thirty-eight numbers or they have a European wheel that has thirty-seven numbers. The European wheel has been around since the seventeenth century. The American wheel wasn’t invented until the nineteenth century. Why was the American wheel invented? It was invented to give the house an extra advantage. That is why the double zero was added to it. It doubled the house advantage, which basically means that it reduced the players odds of winning. So I always endeavor to choose a European table, that is if I am given the opportunity.

Okay, now I have question for you. What has better roulette odds after twenty spins where black came up? Black or red? if you guessed that the chances remain constant then you are already a winner, my friend. The roulette wheel has no memory of past spins, nor does it have the ability to predict future spins. The only thing that it knows is to spin. So no matter how many times a color comes up, the chance of black or red coming up in the next spin is dead even. And this simple fact brings me to my first piece of advice for you, know when to quit. Sock your winnings away and determine what you are spending before you hit the table. After you have reached this predetermined amount of wins or loses, then walk away. The longer you sit at a table the more likely that you will give your winnings (and possibly more) back to the table.

So with the most important tips out of the way, let me give you a couple more that are sure to improve your roulette odds. These rules assume that you are using a European table and not the American variety. And they work pretty well for improving a players roulette odds.

Rule One: Take advantage of En Prison. En Prison is a special rule that occurs on an even money bet, if the ball falls in the zero slot. It allows the player to let the bet ride until the next spin. If the player wins the next spin then he wins the bet, if not then the house wins. This is basically just a second chance for the player to win.

Rule Two: Use a five-way bet. The advantage of the casino is the same for every single wager that you place, except for one. The five-way bet. On a single zero table, this bet swings the roulette odds in the favor of the player. But on American tables it does the opposite. It swings the roulette odds in the favor of the house.
