I am always being asked various questions about roulette. People want to know how to play roulette, if the casino can be beaten and the proper strategy to use when playing the game. In fact, I have gotten so many request to explain the basic principles behind the game that I decided to write this roulette guide. My hope is that this roulette guide will give you a clear and concise blueprint that will navigate you around the waters of this fascinating game.

The first thing that I want to discuss in this roulette guide is the difference between the two major table variations and what effect is has on your odds of winning.

Roulette Guide

There are two varieties of roulette, the American version and the European version. The European version of the game can be spotted easily because it has only one single-zero on the wheel. The American version, on the other hand, has not only the single-zero but also a double zero. The addition of this extra zero greatly influences the house advantage. The house advantage on the American table is approximately 5.73% and the house advantage on the European table is approximately 2.25%.

The next thing that I want to discuss in this roulette guide is some of the bets that are available. Roulette is a game that has a variety of different bets, but they can be broken down into “inside bets” and “outside bets.” An inside bet, just as the name implies, is any bet that is made on the inside of the table. Inside bets include the straight bet (which has a payout of thirty-five to one), split bets (which has a payout of seventeen to one), a street bet (which has a payout of eleven to one) and the square bet (which has a payout of eight to one). Outside bets are bets that are placed on the outside of the table. Outside bets include bets placed on red, black, even, odd, high and low. These bets are even money bets and have a payout of one to one.

Now, let’s talk about some of the strategies that can be used to help win the game of roulette. There are a hundreds of different strategies, but for the purpose of this roulette guide we will only be talking about a few. A popular betting strategy is a progressive system known as the Martingale. This system attempts to help a player cover his past losses by requiring him to double his bet after each loss. This way, when he wins he can win back all of his past losses and make a small profit, or so the theory says. In reality, this system can be very hard to implement for a variety of reasons. One, since it can take awhile before a player starts winning, then he must have access to a large starting bankroll, otherwise he could run out of money before he gets a chance to win. Another thing that makes this system ineffective is that most tables have maximum betting limits that thwart this strategy altogether.

One of my favorite strategies for winning the game of roulette involves betting on the outside bets and spreading the bets around. I’ll give you an example. I would not only bet on red, but I would also bet on odd and even 1-18. If I lose, then I place the same bet but raise my bet slightly. I will do this a maximum of three times. If I lose three times in a row, then I find another table. If I win, then I just keep using the system and raising my bets until I reach the table minimum. I have used this method to win on several occassions and I thought that you would enjoy hearing about it. Thanks for reading this roulette guide. Now go out there and start enjoying the game.
