While roulette is a simple game, it does have a few variations and rules that can take a little while to fully master. So, before we move on to the different types of roulette bets then let us examine the two main versions of roulette, European and American.
European roulette has thirty-seven slots that are numbered zero through thirty-six. This gives the house an advantage of two and a half percent. That means that for every one hundred dollar bill put into action, the player will lose $2.50. The American version of roulette has thirty-eight numbers. That is because there is an double zero added to the wheel. This increases the house advantage to five and a quarter percent, or $5.25 lost by the player per one hundred dollars.
But, that is not the only difference between the two. There are also two special roulette bets available in the European variety. The first special roulette bet is called En Prison, or “In Prison”. This rule allows a players wager to carry over to the next spin if the ball lands on zero. This essentially gives that player a free spin. The second special roulette bet in the European version is La Partage. This special roulette bet is pretty much the same as En Prison, except the player loses half the bet and the bet doesn’t carry over to the next spin.
But, there are many common roulette bets that are shared between the two versions. Here is a very short list. There are bets that have a wager to payout ratio of one to one. These include betting on red or black, odd or even, and high or low. There are also wagers that have a payout of two to one. These include the dozen bet and the column bet. A roulette bet that has a payout of five to one is the line bet. A five bet, also known as a basket bet, has a payout of six to one. Other variations on the roulette bet include a corner bet (eight to one payout), a street bet (eleven to one payout) and the split bet (which has a seventeen to one payout). But, the most common roulette bet is the straight bet. This bet is accomplished by betting on a single number. The payout for this bet is thirty-five to one. For some reason this is one of the most popular bets, probably because of its simplicity. It is also one of the hardest roulette bet to win and the odds are really stacked against you.
Thus concludes are tutorial on the various forms of the games and the many roulette bets. Now that you have a basic understanding of the game and the payout structure then you can head out into the world, or the internet, and find an exciting game that is sure to provide you with hours upon hours of entertainment.
