If you want to play roulette, then you need to learn the basics of the game. You not only need to know the mechanics of the game, but you also need to know the betting structure that players have to work with. And if you are really serious about the game, then you want to learn everything you can about strategy and how to limit the house’s advantage as much as possible. While I can’t cover every aspect about this game in this short article, I can give you a rough guideline that will allow you to play roulette with more confidence. So lets start with the object of the game first.

The objective of roulette is very simple.

Play Roulette

Players attempt to choose bets that will correspond with where the ball is going to land. Players can bet single numbers, combination of numbers, whether the number is going to be even or odd, or the color that will come up. These bets can be mixed and matched as well, giving players dozens of bets. And that is the object of the game in a nutshell.

The next thing that must be considered by those who play roulette are the two different types of roulette. There are American tables and European tables. American tables have wheels with thirty-eight numbers (number 1-36 plus a zero and a double-zero). European tables have a wheel that contains thirty-eight numbers (1-36 plus a single zero). While it might not seem like a big difference, the additional number on an American table doubles the house advantage. Consider this fact: American roulette has a house advantage of 5.26%, while European roulette has a house advantage of 2.63%. This is an important factor to consider before you play roulette, whether its at a traditional casino or at an online casino.

But no matter what version of the game you play, you have to purchase special chips when you sit down to play roulette. On American tables, all the players get different colored chips so that they can tell them apart. On a European table, players get all the same colored chips, so they have to keep a vigilant eye on their own chips. One thing has to remembered, however. At both tables, the chips are only good for that particular table and must be cashed in for payout chips before they are taken to the cashier cage and cashed out.

You are almost ready to go play roulette. All you need to know is some of the betting combinations that are available to you. So let’s start off with the most basic one, the straight bet. The straight bet is when a player puts money on one number. If that number comes up, then the player wins. If the number doesn’t, then the player loses. It’s that simple. The payout on this bet is thirty-five to one. The next bet is the split-bet. This is when a bet is placed on two different numbers. This bet has a payout of seventeen to one. Our next bet is one of the most popular and its called the street bet. This bet is placed on the vertical line that separates the inside and outside betting areas. This bet has a payout of eleven to one. Another common bet is the corner bet. This bet is placed on the intersection of four numbers. If the ball lands on any of the four numbers, then the player wins. This bet has a payout of eight to one. The last bet that I want to talk about is the basket bet. This is a bet on five different numbers; 0,00,1,2 and 3. This bet has a payout of six to one. On the American table this bet has the worst odds of any bet that can be placed. The house advantage for a corner bet is almost eight percent! Now that you know the basics of the game it is time to go out there and play some roulette. Have fun and good luck!!
