The wheel on the game of roulette is a marvelous piece of technology that has peaked the interest of gamblers for hundreds of years. It’s deceptively simple design hides a complex array of numbers and has unique characteristics. The numbers on a roulette wheel is placed in such a way as to almost guarantee the randomness of the game.
The numbers on a roulette wheel are arranged on what is basically a large bowl that has curved walls that is just large enough to accommodate the ball once it has fully come to rest. The pockets, as they have been called, are colored in the colors of red and black, which alternate between the two.

There is also a single zero on a European wheel and a single and double zero on an American table. And these “zero” number on a roulette wheel are colored green.
While the main arrangement of the number on a roulette wheel are one of the prime reasons for it randomness in traditional casinos; Online casinos are a little different. Where the ball land on a roulette wheel in an online casino is entirely dependent on the software’s random number generator, otherwise known as the RNG.
The RNG in an online casino behaves in much the same way on a roulette wheel as it does on a slot machine or video poker machine. It goes through the numbers on a roulette wheel thousands of times a second and when it stops on a particular number then the particular result is attained. This process begins when the software tells it that the wheel has been spun and ends when the software tells it that the wheel has stopped. Whichever of the numbers on a roulette wheel that is currently stored in its memory when it stops is the end result. In this way the RNG guarantees randomness and that the correct odds are applied for each and every game.
Thus, game-play at an online casino is much the same as a traditional casino, except that some of the hassles has been removed. At an online casino, there is no dealer to contend with and it isn’t possible to miss your chance of placing the bet. That is because the wheel is always waiting on you, and not the other way around. And players don’t have to worry about placing the incorrect bet amount on the numbers on a roulette wheel. That is because the software knows what the appropriate minimum and maximum bets should be and simply won’t allow the player to deviate from them.
The last thing that I want to clarify about the numbers on a roulette wheel are how the differences between an American and European table effect the odds of the game. As I said earlier, the American roulette wheel has an extra zero on it. This causes the house advantage of the American table to be twice that of the European table. What this essentially means is that the American table is harder to beat. Let’s take a look at the house advantage on the American and the European tables to see just how great a difference it really can be. The American table has a house advantage of 5.73 % and the European table has a house advantage of 2.25%. I would consider that to be quite significant, wouldn’t you?
While there is this fundamental difference between the two tables, there is one thing that they have in common. On both tables, there is no rhyme or reason to how the numbers on the roulette wheel are arranged. Or so it seems. The numbers are arranged in a fashion that make sure that the results are perfectly random.
