Due to popular demand, I have decided to write a simple guide on how to play roulette. There are quite a few people who are familiar with the game, but don’t know the specifics of its rules. So I have written this roulette guide so that everyone can get a feel for the game. I have broken it down into easy steps that explain the object of the game, the chips, table minimums, betting terms and what happens after play. After all, if you don’t know how to play roulette, then you can’t come up with a winning strategy, now can you?

How To Play Roulette Step One:

The purpose of roulette is to pick a winning number.

How To Play Roulette

This winning number is chosen by the ball dropping into the appropriately marked slot. Players can either choose the number on which to bet, or they can choose combinations of numbers and even colors. For those of you who may not know, there are two different types of roulette tables. There is the European table and the American table. The primary difference between the two is that the European wheel has thirty-seven numbers, ranging from 0-36. American tables have thirty-eight numbers, ranging from 0-36 with an extra 00. This gives the American version the greater house advantage of five percent, while the European version has a house advantage of two percent.

How To Play Roulette Step Two:

Before you start betting, you have to purchase special roulette chips. On European tables everyone has the same color chips, so players have to remember whose chips belong to whom. On American tables each of the players get different color chips, so that all the players can keep them straight. In either case, the chips that are purchased are good only on that table and can’t be used on any other. You also can’t take these chips to the cashier cages. They have to be turned in for regular chips before they can be cashed out.

How To Play Roulette Step Three:

Now that you have your chips its time to make your first bet. The first thing that you have to know about betting is that the table has a minimum and a maximum bet. And you can’t combine the inside and outside bets (more on these later) to meet the table’s minimum. Let me give you an example. If the table has a minimum bet of ten dollars, then you can’t bet seven dollars on the inside and three dollars on the outside. You would have to bet ten dollars on the inside and an additional ten on the outside.

How To Play Roulette Step Four:

Now for an explanation of popular inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets include straight-up bets (where you bet on a single number), a split bet (this wager is placed on the lines between two numbers) and a corner bet (a bet on the four corners of four numbers). Outside bets include bets placed on red, black, even, odd, high or low. Each of the inside bets and outside bets have their own particular payout ratio.

How To Play Roulette Step Five:

During game-play, the dealer is required to keep the wheel moving at all times. And this is true even between spins. After bets are placed, the dealer spins the ball in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. This causes rotation on the ball and also makes it jump before it lands in a slot. After the ball has stopped, the dealer marks the winners with a place marker. No one can place a bet for the next spin until this marker is removed from the previous winners.

And that is all there is to the game of roulette. It isn’t as complicated as it looks and it is a great source of entertainment.
